Jio Home to offer HD channels in Rs 400, claims report

After disrupting the dynamics of telecom sector in India, Reliance jio is now eyeing the DTH industry. Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio is reportedly planing to launch Jio Home TV.Jio Home TV would be eMBMS or Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service that currently is being tested by the company.
The media reports further claim that the Jio Home TV would allow users to watch SD channels at Rs 200 per month while SD and HD channels would be charged at Rs 400 per month.
A report published in the Telecom Talk claimed that the Reliance Jio has finished beta testing of the new Jio Home TV service which used to work with JioBroadcast app earlier available in the Google Play store for testing devices.
The report speculates that the JioBroadcast app may be rebranded as the Jio Home TV app.
Earlier this year, it was also reported that Reliance Jio might enter a mutually-beneficial partnership, with Xiaomi to sell the Chinese giant's television and smartphones exclusively on the Jio retail network and the Reliance Digital chain of stores.
Reliance Jio Infocomm already had an exclusive partnership with Apple in India.
The proposed deal comes after Xiaomi India made a regulatory filing announcing its plans to enter segments beyond smartphones, including the B2B market.
Xiaomi is also planning to sell more products into the Indian market and have also applied for the approval with respective authorities.
An executive said that Xiaomi and Reliance Jio senior officials have met several times in the last few weeks to talk about the deal.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi has a reason to cheer. According to a report by Canalys, Xiaomi owned a market share of 27.4 per cent in the Indian smartphone market having sold 8.2 million smartphones in December quarter.
