NEW DELHI: It looks like Apple iPhone X may be in the same boat as Google Pixel 2 smartphones. The Cupertino-based tech firm has updated its iPhone X support page to reveal that it too may witness screen burns and colour tint issues over time.
Apple says that this is something expected from an OLED screen. The company also added that it has worked on the OLED screens of the iPhone X to reduce the effect of OLED burn-in as much as possible.
"If you look at an OLED display off-angle, you might notice slight shifts in colour and hue. This is a characteristic of OLED and is normal behaviour. With extended long-term use, OLED displays can also show slight visual changes. This is also expected behaviour and can include "image persistence" or "burn-in," where the display shows a faint remnant of an image even after a new image appears on the screen," said the support page.
"This can occur in more extreme cases such as when the same high contrast image is continuously displayed for prolonged periods of time. We've engineered the Super Retina display to be the best in the industry in reducing the effects of OLED "burn-in," added the company.
Apple iPhone X is the only one of the three new iPhones launched this year which comes with an OLED display. It has a 5.8-inch OLED display with 2436 x 1125 pixels and 458 pixels per inch density (PPI). The company has termed this Super Retina display. The HDR display also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10.
The smartphone went up on sale in India last week. It comes in two variants based on 64GB and 256GB storage versions. The 64GB version is priced at Rs 89,000 while the 256GB model costs Rs 1,02,000. The latter is also the first iPhone in India to cross the Rs 1 lakh mark.
